The Glow-Up Secret

When it comes to clients in their consultation, one of the most common things I hear is:

“I just feel like I look very tired all the time"

Or

"I feel like my face looks really heavy.”

Meanwhile, they’re often pulling at their lower face or pointing to their nasolabial areas.

You should see the look on their face when I say that, to correct those areas, we need to lift the cheeks. I can almost read their minds. They’re thinking;

“What is she talking about? It’s my jowls that are the issue, not my cheeks.”

More often than not, people focus on the areas that bother them, rather than what has caused those changes in the first place.

Seeing this reaction is something I experience every day, and it’s one of the reasons mid-face dermal filler has become one of my favorite treatments. Not because it creates dramatic or obvious changes, but because of how naturally it can refresh the face when it’s done well.

Let’s talk about the ageing process.

Unfortunately, we can’t avoid ageing, but when it comes to the face, it’s much more complex than most people realise. It’s not just about wrinkles.

Beneath the surface, the fat pads in our face begin to shrink and move downwards, which can make the lower face appear heavier — what we often refer to as "jowling". At the same time, collagen and elastin levels decrease, the skin becomes thinner and less firm, and even the underlying bone structure subtly changes.

When we look at a younger face, the cheeks sit higher and have a natural fullness. This creates a smooth, soft transition from the eyes down to the mid-face, giving that lifted and well-rested appearance.

As that volume reduces, the cheeks begin to flatten. And when that support is lost, everything else starts to follow. This is when we begin to notice deeper lines around the mouth, a heavier or less defined lower face, shadows or hollowness under the eyes, and a general tired or slightly drawn appearance.

All of these areas are connected, and this is exactly why we focus on the mid-face first.

So, let’s go back to the consultation.

When someone comes to see me, they’ll often point to a specific concern, usually lines around the mouth or under the eyes. But instead of treating that area straight away, I always take a step back and assess the face as a whole.

The mid-face is incredibly important because it acts as a foundation.

If you imagine the face like a structure, the cheeks provide support. When that support weakens, the surrounding areas begin to shift.

By restoring volume in the mid-face, I can often improve multiple areas at once. The cheeks look fuller and more lifted, lines around the mouth appear softer, the lower face looks less heavy, and the under-eye area looks smoother.

And the best part is,  it doesn’t look like you’ve “had something done.” It just looks like you, but well-rested.

"One of the biggest concerns people have about dermal filler is looking unnatural or overfilled"

I completely understand that, and honestly, I feel exactly the same way about how this treatment should be done.

My approach is always about restoration, not exaggeration.

I’m not trying to change your face or add features that weren’t there before. I’m simply replacing volume that has been gradually lost over time.

That might involve gently rebuilding the natural curve of the cheek, restoring soft, youthful fullness, or improving overall balance and proportion.

It’s all about precision.Small amounts, placed carefully and thoughtfully, can make a huge difference. And when it’s done properly, it should never be obvious.

"You should still look like yourself, just fresher, more rested, and more confident"

One of the reasons I love treating the mid-face is the subtle lift it creates.

When volume is restored in the cheeks, it provides support to the surrounding tissues. This creates a gentle lifting effect through the face.

It can help to soften the lines from the nose to the mouth, improve early sagging in the lower face, and reduce that slightly “pulled down” or tired look.

It’s not dramatic or artificial , and that’s exactly why it works so well.

Often, patients come back and say things like,

People keep saying I look really well, but no one knows why.”

And that’s always the goal.

Something that often surprises people is how much the mid-face affects the under-eye area. When the cheeks lose volume, it creates a separation between the lower eyelid and the cheek. This can lead to hollowing under the eyes, increased shadowing, and a more tired appearance.

By restoring volume in the cheeks, we can smooth that transition and reduce the appearance of tiredness, often without needing to treat the under-eye directly.

This is why a full-face approach is so important.

If you’ve never had dermal filler before, it’s completely normal to feel unsure about what to expect. The treatment itself is relatively quick and straightforward. Appointments usually take around 30–45 minutes, a numbing agent is often used to keep you comfortable, and the filler is placed carefully using a needle or cannula. After treatment, you might experience mild swelling, slight bruising, or tenderness in the treated area. These are all normal and usually settle within a few days. Most people go straight back to their usual routine afterwards, which is why it’s such a popular option.

The fillers I use are made from hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the body.

Results typically last between 9 and 18 months, depending on the individual and lifestyle factors. What I really like about this is that the results are not permanent. It allows us to adjust the treatment over time, keep everything looking natural, and work with your face as it continues to change.

"Nothing ever looks fixed or overdone,  just consistently refreshed"

Every face is different, and I believe that should always be respected.

When you come in for a consultation, I take the time to look at your face as a whole, understand what’s changed for you, talk through what’s bothering you, and create a treatment plan that feels right for you. It’s much better to start subtly and build gradually if needed, rather than doing too much at once.

For me, good aesthetic work should never be obvious

"it should just look natural and balanced"

Mid-face fillers work beautifully for a wide range of people. It might be someone who feels like they’ve lost their facial shape, someone who looks more tired than they feel, someone noticing deeper lines starting to form, or someone who simply wants a subtle refresh.

It’s also suitable for younger patients who naturally have less volume in the cheeks and want a very gentle enhancement.

"The key is always tailoring the treatment to the individual"

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from treating the mid-face, it’s that small, thoughtful changes can make a really meaningful difference.

Restoring volume in the cheeks doesn’t just improve one area, it brings the whole face back into balance. And when it’s done well, no one can quite tell what’s changed.

"They just notice that you look well, rested, and more like yourself again"

If you’ve been feeling like your face looks more tired or less defined than it used to, a consultation is always the best place to start.
