Next steps: You'll receive clear guidance following your assessment. Where a lesion requires further investigation, you'll be advised to seek appropriate medical assessment or referral.
Downtime & Aftercare
There is no downtime following a standard mole mapping or skin lesion assessment.
You can return to your normal activities immediately following your appointment.
If monitoring is recommended, you'll be advised on what changes to look out for and when further assessment may be appropriate.
What is mole mapping?
Mole mapping is a structured process of documenting and monitoring moles and other pigmented lesions, helping to identify changes over time.
What is dermoscopy?
Dermoscopy is a specialist examination technique that provides a magnified view of structures within a skin lesion that may not be visible to the naked eye.
Should I have a mole checked if it has changed?
Yes. A mole that has changed in size, shape or colour, or has become itchy, painful, inflamed, bleeding or crusted, should be assessed by an appropriate healthcare professional.
Can you diagnose skin cancer?
Mole mapping and skin lesion assessment should not be considered a definitive diagnosis of skin cancer. If a lesion appears concerning or requires further investigation, you'll be advised to seek appropriate GP or specialist assessment.
Can you remove a mole during the appointment?
No. This service is focused on assessment and monitoring, rather than cosmetic mole removal. Lesions requiring biopsy or removal should be managed through the appropriate medical pathway.
